Our Story

Our products are by scientists, for scientists. They are improving the reproducibility of scientific research, unlocking the potential of cell-based therapies and reducing the environmental footprint of biology research.

Media City Scientific develops and manufactures Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS) replacement products from our headquarters in the beautiful Southern Highlands of NSW, Australia. Herds of cattle graze peacefully nearby as we work to provide researchers with 100 per cent batch consistent, contaminant free, serum replacement solutions that are insulated from price volatility.

Media City Scientific isn't another big corporation. We are a family-owned company, passionate about solving an important scientific problem. We want to open pathways for new therapeutics and foster collaboration across academia and industry.

Meet the Founders

Dr Katie Bashant Day - Chief Scientist

The brains behind Media City's scientific advancements, Katie has a broad background in cellular biology. She has spent 16 years culturing cells across academia, government and industry.

Before establishing Media City, Katie graduated with a PhD in Medicine from the University of Cambridge, specialising in blood cells. She most recently grew and then led the scientific & engineering team at Vow, a rapidly growing startup based in Sydney.

​Katie has worked in labs at Albany Medical Centre in New York State, University of Vermont, University of Utah, University of Cambridge and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Qualifications: BSc UVM, PhD Cantab.

Dr Christopher Day - Co-founder

An advocate of lifting productivity and creating jobs by bringing great scientific research to market, Chris has over a decade of experience working across academia, government and business. 

Prior to founding Media City, Chris's work and research in innovation policy led him to conclude that the gulf between business acumen and technical excellence was holding back the establishment of successful high-tech firms. At Media City we are bringing these vital ingredients together!
